Informal and Formal

Hey Madison! I'm doing my research project on why the Germans did what they did to the Jews. I'm interested in this because I've always been interested in the holocaust. Ever since lower school when we were first introduced to it, I've had this fascination of why all of this happened. I always wondered how in the world people could do that to other human beings. It just never made sense to me! That's why I decided for that to be my research project! I wanted to dig deeper! So far, I have learned that not all Germans were as bad as we think! Some of them only pretended to believe in the Nazi ways just to stay alive! It was all about survival back then. I also learned that the Hitler just has a hatred for the Jews, and somehow he made everyone else hate them to.
My topic that I have been researching is "What is the psychological reasoning behind why the Germans persecuted the Jews?" I chose this topic because I have always been intrigued by the second world war. So far, I have learned that that some Germans were innocent, and that Hitler hated all Jews for practically no reason, and he convinced all other Germans to hate them as well.

Reading Responce

This weekend, I read the book Matched  by Ally Condie. It was actually very good! At night after I would read it, I would lay in my bed and think about what life would be like if we all lived in a world like that. What if the government issued us pills like that and chose who we would marry! I thought about the marrying part the most...what would I do if they made me marry someone I hated? I would probably do everything in my power to get out of it! Maybe run away or disguise myself and go by the name Lulu. I would feel bad for him, but it would probably end up being worse for him if we were actually married...
I also thought about the pills. What if we already have pills like that and I witnessed something that I wasn't supposed to and then I was given a pill to forget! For example...a crime...or an alien or something! I personally would move to another planet if we ever started using pills like that..it's just so scary! Don't you agree?

Music

Without music...I honestly don't know where I would be right now! I love it so much that sometimes its all I do! In the mornings, the first thing I do is pull out my phone and press play. Then all the way to school I listen to it. At school when I need help concentrating, I plug in my headphones. It's like when i'm listening to my music, I enter this whole different world. If i'm listening to happy music all happy memories that I've ever had come rushing back, and when I listen to depressing music, all depressing memories come back into mind. My music is the only thing that keeps me calm!
There's this app for computers called Spotify and i swear that it's probably the best thing that has ever happened to me...! On the app, you can pretty much look up any song ever made and make different playlists that you can share with your friends. You can also see what your friends have been listening to lately, and listen to it with them. I update my playlists almost everyday, and now I pay $9 a month for no adds and to be able to use it without wifi! Without it...I would probably hate life. ANYWAYS. You should go check it out, and follow me!

This semester

If I Stay
In Defense of Food
Nation
Lord of the Flies
World War Z
*The Short Stories*

This semester I feel like I have grown a lot in my reading. I have definitely read a lot more than I usually have(, but that's probably because we were forced to). That's okay though! I still enjoyed it! Annotating has also become much easier for me since we have learned the different literary elements. I also am concentrating more when I am reading. I'm not sure why, but its nice.

In the spring semester, I hope to continue reading a lot of different books. Maybe I can try to read a type of book that I have never read before, or maybe read 15 books by the end of the year. I feel like that is a very reasonable goal.

Mood in Lord of the Flies

In the book I am tracking the mood. In the very beginning of this book the mood was sort of happy. They were using happy colors to describe the island and the kids almost seemed exciting about being away from their parents! That lasted about a day or so. Then panic sets in! They realize that they are on a deserted island with limited resources. They are just kids. They need a plan. The mood begins to become very stressed. You feel that if you could help them you would but you just cant! You want them to succeed.

On a smaller level, you begin to feel sort of sorry for Piggy. The group continues to throw out his ideas and make him seem like the weakest link. They wont even let him go explore with him. That contributes some sadness to the mood.

Semester Recap

This semester I have really improved in annotating. I learned that there are actual elements of writing that you can annotate for. It might take a while to actually do these annotations but at least they have become easier for me to do. Social Setting is my favorite thing to annotate for. I like looking at how the different characters interact with each other and how their relationships can change. I also like annotating for psychological setting (mood) because if you you understand how the book wants you to feel, then it becomes much easier to connect with the characters.

Blogging is something new to me. I had never done it before this year and I think that its a really cool skill to have! It lets you poor your thoughts out for other people to see which is really awesome. Sometimes its hard to keep up with them, but I mostly manage to get them done. I really enjoy blogging, but sometimes its hard to find the time to. Maybe when I get older i'll be able to keep up with an actual blog!

One thing we might need to review are all of the literary elements. I have most of them down, but I get some of them mixed up.

reading responce

Right now I am reading World War Z by Max Brooks. It is a collection of individual accounts of a zombie war told in first person. Now I know what you are thinking...why in the world are you reading a zombie book. The answer is simple really! My favorite TV show is the walking dead. Now if you've never seen the walking dead, it basically follows a group of people in a Zombie Apocalypse as they try to stay alive. It's probably the best show i've ever seen in my life.
Anyways, back to the book. One of the reasons I like this book is because it is a collection of individual stories. If you don't know what I mean  by that, think of story core. Remember in 7th grade how we saw the different stories all mashed into one subject. Its like that! Except its one scientist recording all of these peoples stories. It takes you threw the first outbreak, attacks, individual struggles, and (even though I haven't gotten to it yet) defeating the zombies. Its a really good book. You should read it, and if you like it watch the walking dead!
